The digital age of technology is now one of the greatest platforms in the world to communicate, advertise, sell, market, promote, produce, and recieve information and services. The days of picking up the morning newspaper, or purchasing trade magazines from the corner newstand are gone. Services that once required consumers and browsers to leave the home and visit the local mall, shopping center and downtown bank are also available through digital websites. College classes and training courses are available through the web in todays society providing education to students who learn while eating a bowl of cereal at the home pc workstation while still dressed in their pajamas. These are just a few prime examples of the vast capabilities of the new digital technology age that we are fortunate enough to learn and experience in this new and exciting century.
As I look around during my daily routines and weekend treks, I notice the advancements and innovative improvements in everyday life, business situations and human and maintenance service centers everywhere. I find myself paying attention to digital billboards, lighted signage and sparkling bright lighted advertisements that catch the eyes and flash information in 30 second intervals. The pop up advertisements on the internet and all the services provided under every link at are at your fingertips.
Twenty years ago, aspiring artists would rent a studio, hire musicians, write, sing and perform their songs or music in the recording studio hoping to catch the moment when you know everything is right musically on a recording. Then shop the demo to different recording labels in hopes of becoming a signed artist. This practice was time consuming and required alot of leg work and knocking on doors. After a successful meeting with a record company, a deal was made and most likely an artist would go on tour, performing at various venues to showcase his / her talent in hopes of creating a "buzz" for the music and later some play over the radio.
Nowadays I see the same types of marketing strategies in a different realm. The realm of the digital age. Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and You Tube are examples of digital forums that give everyday people who want to be heard or seen a platform. Do viewers take these people seriously? Are the digital performers serious about the posts they have created? Are these venues considered to be the avenues for musicians and performers who take their craft serious? Which sites would you reccomend for audio / visual promotion?
